Questions people actually ask
Short answers. Where the honest answer is that it depends on the car, the answer says so and points at who to ask.
Does a repainted car stop being original?
It stops being unrestored. It can still be entirely correct, and for a car that is driven that is usually what matters. The distinction only becomes expensive when somebody is buying on the assumption of original paint.
Are re-manufactured parts acceptable?
For a car that is used, generally yes, and for safety-related items often preferable. Quality varies enormously and does not follow price, so ask the register which runs have been good before ordering.
How do I find a part with no listing anywhere?
Identify it properly first: photographs, measurements and any cast or stamped numbers. Then ask a one-make register and ring yards about the whole family of models rather than your exact one.
Should I use a dehumidifier or just ventilate?
In a mild damp climate, air movement does most of the work and costs least. A dehumidifier only earns its keep in a reasonably sealed space with the drain sorted out, otherwise it stops being used by December.
Is it worth starting the car once a month over winter?
No. A short start never reaches temperature, so water condenses in the oil and exhaust and the battery loses more than it regains. Either drive it properly on a dry day or leave it prepared and alone.
Can I learn to weld on my own sills?
Learn to weld, certainly, but not on structure. Sills, floors and anything that carries a jack, a seat belt or a suspension mount should be done by someone who does it regularly, because a poor repair is invisible until it matters.
Will you tell me what my car or my project is worth?
No. We do not value cars, parts or unfinished projects, and we do not quote for repair work. Those are jobs for a valuer and a workshop respectively.
